Sledding

“It’s as if…” The man paused, seeming to search his mind for the right words of description. “It’s like going downhill through deep snow on a sled,” he said, finally. “At first it’s exhilarating: the speed; the sharp, clear air; but then the snow accumulates, builds up on the runners, and you slow, you have to push hard to keep going and –”  The Giver by Lois Lowry

Rochester Geology

rochester-geology

That is not paint.  Its a different layer of rock in what makes up Rochester Geology.   If you notice, it is bookended by different layers.  There are many messages here.  One is that these rocks have been here for probably millions of years. They have been there through the Iroquois Nation, and for all of the History of this country.  The sun will rise,  the sun will set, and these rocks will still be there. Summer can come and winter can come, and they will be there.  The second is do you see that layer of rock as the Obama presidency or as the Trump presidency.  If you see it as the Trump presidency then the question is what are you going to do,  to make it only last  for 4 years. At the end of 4 years the next president can take steps to put back in place the Obama policies you liked.  If you see it as the Obama presidency then you are already on the way to making it so.  If you see it as the Trump presidency then, other than posting on Facebook, ask yourself, what am I doing tomorrow to make this a reality.  Then start doing it.

Trail 3

“Paths are the habits of a landscape. They are acts of consensual making. It’s hard to create a footpath on your own…Paths connect. This is their first duty and their chief reason for being. They relate places in a literal sense, and by extension they relate people.

Paths are consensual, too, because without common care and common practice they disappear: overgrown by vegetation, ploughed up or built over (through they may persist in the memorious substance of land law). Like sea channels that require regular dredging to stay open, paths NEED walking.”
Robert Macfarlane, The Old Ways: A Journey on Foot

Love

I was on my way to the post office, to mail out some cards and birthday presents.  My friend asked me, why do you take your time doing that, when you often don’t ever get anything back.   I thought about it, and said that somewhere in my life, I had figured out that Love is not about what you get from others, its about you – what you do and what you give.
