Fall in the shadows

img_7182

Driving back to Rochester from a meeting, I circled back after passing this cemetery.  Of the pictures I took, this was my favorite.  Cemeteries can be  seen as boundary lands between the living and the dead.  Fall is the season between summer and Winter.  This obelisk separates the scene with Fall on one side,  and winter on the other.  There is still a little summer in the upper left corner.

Place to pray

prayer-room

On a tour of ethnic markets in and around Rochester, one of the owners allowed us to see his prayer room, where he and his employees can pray during the 5 times a day they are called upon to pray.   He told the group that when he first came to the US as a young boy and man, that when they were traveling they could stop the car, put down their prayer rug and pray. This could be by the side of the road or at a Thruway rest stop.  NonMuslims who saw them would often encourage them or ask polite questions.  He stated now that they could never do that, and instead will just  pray in their cars.
