Life is a lovely thing, get out of your shell, and live it

img_8878-2I wake.

I breathe.

The day begins.

What adventures does it bring?

Morning walk.

Mist and fog,

before the dawn.

Sunrise as I walk.

Sun illuminates the mist and fog,

another glorious day.

Coffee with a loved one,

morning conversation.

Bike ride in the fog.

The world looks different,

there is no distance,

everything is up close.

Take pictures in the fog.river-in-fog

Talk to random strangers,

discuss the world.

The fog also seems to muzzle the sounds.

Can’t even see across the river.

Talk to other photographers,

each of us catching altered views of reality.

Message some friends who like to take images.

Say its a beautiful day,

come out an play.

Bike by a man,

I’m homeless and hungry, he says.

Turn the bike back,

He tells me a same old story,

I must have heard a 100 times.

I’m not from here,

I need to get to NY.

Think about a friend whose,

brilliant homeless sister just died,

give him money for breakfast,

and we shake hands.

Swim at YMCA,

in the locker room,

the TV is on.

We all talk about our reality,

versus the latest from Trump,

different views,

but same reality,

a few really insightful comments.

Ride home,

the fog is lifting,

manage to catch up with my loved one,

switch to tea, and write more words.

A great start to the day.

Montreal Stairs 7

montreal-doors-6

The beauty of outdoor stairs is that they extend the rooms of the house onto the street.  They provide a porch for people who do not have porches. They provide a space to sit and watch the street, that is not on of of the street.  You are and are not in public when you are on a stair.

Sledding

IMG_8507.JPG

“It’s as if…” The man paused, seeming to search his mind for the right words of description. “It’s like going downhill through deep snow on a sled,” he said, finally. “At first it’s exhilarating: the speed; the sharp, clear air; but then the snow accumulates, builds up on the runners, and you slow, you have to push hard to keep going and –”  The Giver by Lois Lowry

Rochester Geology

rochester-geology

That is not paint.  Its a different layer of rock in what makes up Rochester Geology.   If you notice, it is bookended by different layers.  There are many messages here.  One is that these rocks have been here for probably millions of years. They have been there through the Iroquois Nation, and for all of the History of this country.  The sun will rise,  the sun will set, and these rocks will still be there. Summer can come and winter can come, and they will be there.  The second is do you see that layer of rock as the Obama presidency or as the Trump presidency.  If you see it as the Trump presidency then the question is what are you going to do,  to make it only last  for 4 years. At the end of 4 years the next president can take steps to put back in place the Obama policies you liked.  If you see it as the Obama presidency then you are already on the way to making it so.  If you see it as the Trump presidency then, other than posting on Facebook, ask yourself, what am I doing tomorrow to make this a reality.  Then start doing it.
